Named as a tribute to Zimbabwean winemaker Joseph Dhafana’s father who passed away in 2004, grapes for the Flavian Syrah were sourced from a single 20 year old trellised block grown on shale-rich soils in Riebeek Kasteel. Hand harvested and sorted, then vinified with minimal intervention. Whole bunch fermented and matured in first, second & third fill barrel for 18 months.
Very primary on the nose with plenty of red and blackberries plus a little floral perfume and white pepper while the palate is fairly bursting with fruit, the tannins quite soft.
